Do professors remember you?
Just like other human beings, academics will tend to remember students who they have had regular one-on-one contact with over a sustained period of time. They are unlikely to remember students who they have met only in group settings (e.g., in lectures, etc.) or only on sporadic occasions.
How do you thank a professor at the end of the semester?
My gratitude to you for all you have done, which I will never forget. I truly appreciate you and your time you spent helping me in many occasions. Thank you very much for the course. I enjoyed every minute of your lecture as well as your marvelous sense of humor.
How long does it take for a professor to respond?
24 to 48 hours
Typically, you should give your professors/TAs 24 to 48 hours to respond. In most cases, your course director is not trying to ignore you. To avoid this altogether, you may even take a moment at the beginning of each term to ask your professors how long it usually takes them to respond to student emails.
Is it weird to thank your professor?
It wouldn’t be odd. The professor will probably really appreciate the gesture. One of the big reasons someone chooses a career in academia is because they want to make a difference in the lives of students. You could simply tell the professor how the particular course you took from them impacted you.
Why don’t professors respond to their emails?
Professors get a lot of emails and answering every email can be a lot of work. If they just do not have time and read the email, then they forget often to respond later. This issue is not specific to academia. I would first of all not write email, but call him. Another email could also be overlooked.
What happens at the end of the semester?
The end of the semester is a difficult time for any college student. We are sleep deprived, highly addicted to caffeine, and in need food. Around this time we can frequently be found in the library (some of us for the first time this year), or going to see our professors at their office hours to beg for a couple extra points to boost our grade.
How do I get my e-mail to the top of professors’ queue?
Use the same e-mail title (or reply-all to your own e-mail) so as to bump the e-mail thread back up to the top of the prof’s e-mail queue. It’s important to try to keep e-mail threads together as faculty have limited brain resources and we rely on our e-mail as our offline memory extension.
How do you handle multitasking as a professor?
The way some faculty handle the multitasking is by singletasking. They only do postdoc intake work on Friday mornings, for example. Others give up and have a mailbox from hell.
