In short, Group will just make selected items together in one instance while component will make all the copied objects properties to the same.
What is component in SketchUp?
SketchUp components enable you to reuse objects. Like all geometry in SketchUp, a component is still made of edges and faces. The edges and faces are simply part of a special component group. (You can also create components to reuse your own geometry, but that’s covered in Developing Components and Dynamic Components.)
What does group mean in SketchUp?
In LayOut, groups are a way to keep related elements organized in the drawing area. Groups can also make selecting and copying multiple elements easier. For example, if you know you’ll always want to select a text box and a shape together, make it a group so you just need to select it once.

Groups are great for non-repeating objects that you want to keep from merging with other geometry. Components are linked together so that every “instance” of the component will change whenever one instance changes, making future changes easy! MY SKETCHUP MODELING PC SETUP
