Why is there a spring in a pen?
There’s a spring at the nose cone (tip) of every click pen. The spring wants the cartridge to always be retracted. First click: The spring inside the barrel keeps the ink cartridge and pen tip in fully retracted position.
What makes a pen expensive?
In general, the bigger the pen the more expensive it will be. Larger pens are also usually the flagship pens a company offers, and therefore come with more options such as bigger nibs, gold nibs and nicer body materials. Larger pens may also have a sturdier build and weigh more.
How much force does a pen spring have?
Once the ink thing leaves the spring from the pen, there is only one force acting on it—the gravitational force. This means the object will have an acceleration of -9.8 m/s2 in the vertical direction (free fall acceleration).

What does clicking your pen mean?
Choosing to click or tap their pens incessantly, this can be a sign of boredom, contemplation and brewing creativity. Equally, frustration and an eagerness to finish the task at hand can be traits of the clicker.
Why do pens retract?
The pens spring pushes the cam body up against the plunger which makes the cam body rotate 45 degrees and you can hear the first click. Pressing the push-button again restarts the sequence but this time the pen refill will be retracted when you release the push button.
What makes a pen click?
The two clicks that you hear when pressing the top button on a retractable ballpoint ‘click pen’ are a key to understanding the mechanics happening inside of it: A rotation, extension, and lock of the spring-loaded ink cartridge, pushing the ballpoint tip into place outside of the casing.
