What is the fleshy thing in my vagina?
Labia majora (outer lips) The outer folds of the vulva are sometimes known as the “large lips.” They are large, fleshy folds of tissue. Their purpose is to protect and enclose the external genital organs. The labia majora may be covered in pubic hair, which usually grows in during puberty.
What is a hymen tag?
Hymenal tags are offshoots of extra hymen tissue that typically project off the edge of the hymen. Hymenal polyps and hymenal tags are almost always benign (not cancerous). Patients can be seen by Texas Children’s experts in Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology.
Hymenal tags are extremely common — most women aren’t even aware they have them. Tags usually don’t cause any symptoms, but when they do, it’s usually in form of mild swelling or light bleeding. This typically results from the tag getting caught or torn during intercourse or other physical activity.
What are vaginal polyps?
Cervical polyps are growths that usually appear on the cervix where it opens into the vagina. Polyps are usually cherry-red to reddish-purple or grayish-white. They vary in size and often look like bulbs on thin stems. Cervical polyps are usually not cancerous (benign) and can occur alone or in groups.
What does Hymenal tags look like?
If you do notice tiny pieces of extra skin in this area, they may be hymenal tags. They come in many different variations, but are often the same color as the surrounding skin. Some tags may be slightly darker. In some cases, the tags may resemble a small, stalk-like growth.
The majority of hymenal tags are small, and hymenal tags of considerable size are unusual. Although hymenal tags tend to resolve over time, approximately 30\% may persist at three years of age [4].
What is the difference between a fibroid and a polyp?
Both are uterine growths, but the main difference are Fibroids and polyps contain very different types of tissue. Fibroids are made of dense, connective fibrous tissue. (The word fibroid comes from fibrous.) Polyps are made of endometrial tissue, the tissue found in the uterine lining.
What do polyps in the uterus look like?
They are attached to the endometrium by a thin stalk or a broad base and extend inward into the uterus. The polyps may be round or oval, and range in size from a few millimeters (the size of a sesame seed) to a few centimeters (the size of a golf ball), or larger.
Can you pass a uterine polyp?
Uterine polyps can vary enormously in size: some are as small as a sesame seed, while others are as large as a golf ball. It’s also possible to have a single polyp or many and most polyps stay within the womb. In some cases however the polyp may pass through the cervix (neck of the womb) and into the vagina.
What do cervical polyps feel like?
Polyps on the cervix may not cause any noticeable symptoms. However, see your gynecologist right away if you experience vaginal discharge of white or yellow mucus, or abnormally heavy periods. You should also call your doctor if you experience vaginal spotting or bleeding: after sexual intercourse.
