What happens at the end of med school?
The Step 2 exam, which measures clinical knowledge and skills, is usually completed during the third or fourth year of medical school. The final exam for initial licensure, Step 3, occurs during the first or second year of residency training, after you have completed medical school and received your medical degree.

As a final-year medical student, you have more autonomy and independence, but not completely without residents and attendings guiding you along the way. There’s a lot of great training in the fourth year, and you learn how to be efficient and manage your time — skills that you need for residency.”
When is the best time to apply for medical school?
As early as possible. For all our applicants, we recommend applying within the first month the medical school application portal opens (so, submit your application ideally in June 2021). But, the sooner the better.

How long does it take to get into medical school?
At times, this can take 4-6 weeks to complete, so even if you submit your application on June 30, it could potentially take until early August or mid-August for your application to actually make it to medical schools. Take a deep breath after submitting, you did it.
