What does it mean if an exam is not proctored?
Unproctored exams are unsupervised tests that can be taken without a teacher or “proctor” present. Today, most non-proctored exams take the form of online assessments because they’re relatively easy to administer and can be taken at the student or candidate’s convenience.
Why should exams be proctored?
A proctor is a person that will supervise you while taking an exam. Proctors ensure academic integrity during the exam. It is your responsibility to find and/or schedule your proctor in a timely fashion to take your exam.
What should you not do in a proctored exam?
Actions and behaviors that will be flagged during an exam:
- Talking aloud: Unless you have an accommodation, talking or whispering aloud during the exam is not permitted.
- Being out of camera view: Your face, chin to forehead, needs to be in the camera view at all times.
What is the difference between proctored and Unproctored?
Proctored exams means you’re being watched during the exam, while non-proctored exams are unsupervised.
Should students be monitored for online testing?
It is definitely an invasion of privacy to monitor a student’s screen while they are taking a test or when they are doing anything for online school. It’s their personal computer most of the time which means it has personal things on it.

Can ProctorU detect eye movement?
Each student proctored by ProctorU has their browser disabled. The system uses AI to watch the students eye movements, head movements, body language and typing patterns throughout the test.
Can you cheat using ProctorU?
ProctorU is a program that detects some of the prohibited activities like opening a web browser or unauthorized programs. It is not possible to cheat ProctorU because it is a strict and effective proctoring software.
Does Proctorio detect eye movement?
Proctorio does not track eye movements, but we may use facial detection to ensure test takers are not looking away from their exam for an extended period of time. This simply detects the presence of a face interacting with the exam window.
