- Rest the bruised area, if possible.
- Ice the bruise with an ice pack wrapped in a towel. Leave it in place for 10 to 20 minutes. Repeat several times a day for a day or two as needed.
- Compress the bruised area if it is swelling, using an elastic bandage. Don’t make it too tight.
- Elevate the injured area.
What does it mean when you get a bruise on your arm for no reason?

Can you bruise someone by grabbing them?
Many patterns of abusive bruising result in positive or negative imprints of the implement used (eg, fingertips in “grab mark” contusions or hand in slap injury). However, bruising may also form along the lines of greatest anatomical stress (eg, gluteal cleft or pinna bruising).
Should I be worried about a deep bruise?
Bruises are typically surface injuries that heal on their own without medical attention, and people can treat them safely at home. However, if you suffer a more significant trauma or injury and have bruising that does not heal and disappear after 2 weeks, then it’s time to get medical attention.
What is a linear bruise?

The optical characteristics of the skin may be explained by the fact that blue wavelengths of the light are scattered (and thus reflected) to a greater extent than the red wavelengths.
