Is law school worth it if not T14?
You don’t have to go to a T14 law school to get a biglaw job, but it definitely helps. Even within the T14, a biglaw job is not guaranteed, and the lower down you go within the T14, the worse your odds, and the higher your class rank needs to be, in order to have a shot. Outside the T14, schools get very regional.
How hard is it to get into T14 law school?
In order to get into a T14, you will primarily need excellent grades and a high LSAT score. The median LSAT for a T14 is usually above 167, and the median GPA is close to 3.8 or higher.
What is considered a low rank law school?
Many low ranking schools give out exceptionally dismal grades in their students’ first year: at many lower ranked schools, the GPA of the 50\% rank is between 2.0 – 2.9. Top schools have a 50\% GPA of 3.3. Also, most low ranked law schools are very stingy about giving As and Bs (or their equivalents).

Graduating from a T14 law school matters the most for your first job, when your law school can help distinguish you from thousands of other people graduating that year. Attending a T14 becomes much less important after your first job. As I mentioned previously, where you attend law school will matter the most initially (i.e., to get your first job), but it won’t matter forever.

At Cardozo Law School, where 92\% of 2017 graduates secured jobs in New York or New Jersey, over 50\% were employed in private practice and over a third of those positions were at firms of over 100 lawyers.
