Is it possible to join the circus?
Many circuses have a preshow or an option to arrive early and meet performers. You could use that time to ask questions about current openings, the process of getting hired, or who to contact about applying for a job. And don’t just ask performers.
What is life like in a circus?
On a circus you will find tents, trapeze artist, lions, tigers, elephants and clowns. On a carnival there are mechanical amusement rides and games of chance. Yes they both sell cotton candy. In years past most circuses and still today many circuses move every day, that’s 7 towns a week 2 performances a day.
Do you have to be born in the circus to perform?
You do not need to be born in the circus to be in the circus. In fact it is more common for people to develop the skills outside the circus and audition. Many performers have graduated from Circus Schools from around the world and successfully joined circuses.
Does circus make you happier?
Circus makes you happier. If you were wondering whether circus is also considered a recreational activity, you are right. And with every physical activity we do, be it practicing a handstand or balancing on a rope, our body releases chemicals called endorphins. Endorphins are released while we exercise and reduce our perception of pain.
Do circuses take care of their exotic animals?
Although some companies do not offer reasonable care to the animals in their circus, there are organizations like the Carson and Barnes Circus that support their own herd of retired elephants on land in Oklahoma. Managing exotic animals is tricky.
Why do we practice circus skills?
Phare students and performers practice a circus skill with the pure joy of being able to express who they are or what they are feeling. Circus allows us to create art that is purely physical and full of emotion. It’s important to have an outlet for our emotions, feelings, worries – even joys.
