How many players are ideal for DND?
As a rule-of-thumb, the best D&D parties tend to consist of around four to six players, plus the DM. This gives people enough to work with, whilst preventing the aforementioned roleplaying chaos.
Is 6 people too much for a DND campaign?
Being a Dungeon Master is hard work, both before and during the game. It’s absolutely possible to run a great game for six to nine players, even for a new DM, but don’t be too hard on yourself. Expect it to take a while to get comfortable with a small army sitting down at your table each session.
How many people is too much for a DND campaign?
Optimally, 3 or 4 players and 1 DM. I prefer the smaller number of players since it gives each player more screen time. 5 is good as well since you can have someone not make it and still be able to play.

You can even ask family. Just casually say, “I was thinking of starting a D&D game, would you like to play?” You would be surprised how many people will say yes. You don’t need a huge group to start. Two or three players is enough to get a game going.
Can you play D&D with 5 players?

What is the ideal number of players in a group?
Three or four is usually quoted as ideal. In our group, we have lost a regular player and are down to five. It’s not awful, but it can be slow during combat. If we have six players at once (DM has confessed this is his limit) then everyone needs to be on their A game just to make sure it works almost smoothly.
