How many people fail at programming?
In particular, most people can’t learn to program: between 30\% and 60\% of every university computer science department’s intake fail thefirst programming course.
Why is programming hard for some people?
Coding is thought to be hard because it’s a different type of skill; and “different” in the sense that it’s unlike anything most of us have ever experienced before. You might know about the different kids coding languages, and what code looks like, etc., but the other 90\% is very different.
How many programmers can’t write any code at all?
Like me, the author is having trouble with the fact that 199 out of 200 applicants for every programming job can’t write code at all. I repeat: they can’t write any code whatsoever .
Did all engineers have to take the programming class?
All Engineers had to take it. To be fair, if it wasn’t for my programming friend, I don’t think I would have done very well in the class. There were many concepts I simply couldn’t grasp. Even with external help. I could look back and blame a million things as to why I didn’t learn all the concepts. Why I left that class hating programming.
Who is the author who is turning away programmers?
The author he’s referring to is Imran, who is evidently turning away lots of programmers who can’t write a simple program: After a fair bit of trial and error I’ve discovered that people who struggle to code don’t just struggle on big problems, or even smallish problems (i.e. write a implementation of a linked list).
What factors determine your failure in life?
Not having a purpose was the next factor that determined my failure. To me, I didn’t have a purpose beyond a requirement. My purpose was just to get a good grade, and it showed. Years after I finished the class, I had literally forgotten almost everything. It just didn’t stick in my mind.
