How do you determine if a problem is researchable or not?
You can identify a research problem by reading recent research, theory and debates on your topic to find a gap in what is currently known about it. You might look for: A phenomenon or context that has not been closely studied. A contradiction between two or more perspectives.
What makes a researchable problem?
A research problem is a statement about an area of concern, a condition to be improved, a difficulty to be eliminated, or a troubling question that exists in scholarly literature, in theory, or in practice that points to the need for meaningful understanding and deliberate investigation.
What topics are not researchable?
Non-researchable problems include explanations of how to do something, vague propositions, and value-based concerns. Is democracy the best form of government? Can crime be prevented? Should cell phone use while driving be banned?
What are the characteristics of researchable topic?
CHARACTERISTICS OF A GOOD RESEARCH TOPIC
- The topic is interesting. It will hold the researcher’s interest through the entire research.
- The topic is researchable.
- The topic is significant.
- The topic is manageable.
What is researchable and non-Researchable?
In short Researchable problems imply the possibility of empirical investigation. Non-researchable problems include explanations of how to do something, vague propositions, and value-based concerns.
What is researchable topic?
A research topic is a subject or issue that a researcher is interested in when conducting research. A well-defined research topic is the starting point of every successful research project. Often the most difficult part of the research process is selecting a topic.
What is an example of a non researchable problem?
Here is an extreme example of a non-researchable problem. A physician wants first-hand reports of what patients thought and felt (past tense!) in the 12 to 48 hours before their deaths. Deficiencies in this example: The patients are deceased; they cannot fill out a survey, answer questions, etc.
What does it mean if a topic is not researchable?
This does not mean that the topic is not capable of sustaining research. Often it is a matter of recasting the question so that specific testable hypotheses can be formulated. Non-researchable questions could be too broad or vague, or they could be questions for which answers are easily obtainable.
What makes a research project not researchable?
Research requires data. Sometimes results from the data are negative (zero), but it is still data. Since research must result in data, you must evaluate beforehand whether such data could be found through a research project. Here is an extreme example of a non-researchable problem.
What is an example of a non research question?
Non-researchable questions could be too broad or vague, or they could be questions for which answers are easily obtainable. An example of the former could be “Is there a God?” and the latter “How many cars were registered in 2017?”.
