You can actually learn Sketchup in 2–3 hours (excluding advanced features). But Maya is worlds apart. It is vast so it will take at least one week for the workflow to sink in. Well, if you are a student and holidays are on and you gotta do this, you will manage to get the hang of it in 3–4 days, but no sooner.

If you only want to learn how to model, it can take you about 2-3 weeks but with texturing, materials and stuff, it will take you loads more time. I’m not there yet and I still have a long way ahead of me.
