What is free time paralysis?
The answer, my friend, is a phenomenon called ‘free-time paralysis’. Essentially, the idea is that having too much choice leaves us overwhelmed, unable to pick between all the socialising, admin, self-improvement and relaxation we’re supposed to fit into a weekend and leaves us doing nothing.
Why you need to choose the activities for the utility of free time in a healthy way?
Leisure time allows you to step back — physically but most important, mentally — from stress. Your mind and body will tune, you will feel relaxed. During leisure activities, you will be disconnected from the outside world. You will be empowering yourself to deal with situations in a less stressful way.
What is workload paralysis?
We’ve all been there: workload paralysis. Sometimes when you have so much ahead, it can feel like it’ll never end, which might cause you to feel paralyzed by anxiety at work and unmotivated to even start. But the longer you let the anxiety cripple you, the harder it will be to tackle your tasks.
How many hours a day should you relax?
While needs vary among individuals, a new survey found that overall, people were happiest when they had a mix of effort and relaxation each day. The sweet spot? Four to five hours of downtime daily.
Why do I have a hard time making decisions?
Making decisions will always be difficult because it takes time and energy to weigh your options. Things like second-guessing yourself and feeling indecisive are just a part of the process. In many ways, they’re a good thing—a sign that you’re thinking about your choices instead of just going with the flow.
Are you free-time poor?
Free-time, we all want more of it. It’s time for yourself, time to unwind, time to do the things you love and, most importantly, time when you don’t have to be at work. Most of us are free-time poor. We work increasingly long hours as employers push us to the limit and we scrabble to stay adrift in an unstable job market.
Can fatigue make it harder to make decisions?
We have a harder time saying no —to things like junk food, impulse buys, and other tempting offers. On the flip side, fatigue can also make it harder to say yes, especially to decisions that would upset the status quo. Fatigue makes it difficult to even think about making decisions, let alone what’s right or wrong, correct or incorrect.
Why is our free-time so precious?
As a result, the free-time we have becomes precious. A delicate, precious window of 48-hours which must be protected at all costs. In that time we are somehow meant to complete all of the life admin, socialising, resting, exercising, creative pursuits and self-care for the entire week.
