Do new cylinder heads come with valves?
In the overhead camshaft (OHC) design, the cylinder head contains the valves, spark plugs and inlet/exhaust tracts just like the OHV engine, but the camshaft is now also contained within the cylinder head.
What causes no compression in all cylinders?
There are several causes you can eliminate if your cylinders are losing compression. Exhaust valves and air intake valves at the top of the cylinder can also get overheated, and leak gas or the valve seals can become too worn to seal the gas in properly. Either way, the result is often low compression.
Should I replace engine valves?
If you’re tearing down a race engine, therefore, some clues to look for that would indicate it’s time to replace the valves would be loss of valve lash (due to valve stretch), unusual or uneven seat wear, scuffing on the valve stems, or wear or chatter marks in the keeper grooves.
Are remanufactured cylinder heads good?
Remanufactured heads will typically carry a much better warranty than a rebuilt head. This is because the inspection and repair processes are more thorough and all new parts are installed.
How do you increase engine compression?
Higher compression is normally achieved in a few ways:
- By changing the flat-top pistons to high compression ones that curve upward to result in a higher compression ratio. However, since the air and fuel are both more highly compressed, there will be more heat.
- Turbocharging.
- Supercharging.
Can valves be reused?
If you simply regrind and reuse the valves without replating them, the valves may stick or gall when the engine is first started or if it overheats. Some engine rebuilders will reuse the intake valves but replace the exhaust valves (because the exhaust valves run hotter and are more vulnerable to failure if reused).
What happens if valves are not seated properly?
Improperly seated valves can cause a loss of compression which will result in a loss of some power. Eventually it will burn the valve. If it’s the intake valve it will cough/pop back thru the intake. If it’s the exhaust it could backfire.
What are some benefits of recommending a completely remanufactured cylinder head?
Remanufactured heads will typically carry a much better warranty than a rebuilt head. This is because the inspection and repair processes are more thorough and all new parts are installed. Most importantly, remanufactured heads will often carry a labor and progressive damage warranty whereas a rebuilt head will not.
