What are Fruit Pastilles made of?
Fruit Pastilles, a mix of blackcurrant, lemon, strawberry, lime and orange chewy sweets, contain no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives, and were invented by brothers Henry and Joseph Rowntree, working with French confectioner August Claude Gaget, at their cocoa works in York in 1881.
Why are fruit pastilles different?
Technicians trialled over 30 recipes to remove the gelatine while ensuring the sweets retained the flavours we know and love. The company has said the move was a popular request but warned the change will make the sweets “slightly softer” than the chewy ones we are used to.

Are Nestle Jelly Tots halal?
The Jelly Tots are Halal but Nestle clearly states all sweets are made on the same line in the factory, so due to cross-contamination, we will advise against eating them. As recently announced by Rowntree’s, the Fruit Pastilles are now Vegan, therefore halal.
