Can you add names to a headstone?
There can be an occasion when you must add a name onto a gravestone, such as adding the name of a recently deceased loved one onto a large family headstone or monument. Or, an older stone may have “Grandfather” engraved into it with birth and death dates only.
How much does it cost to add names to a headstone?
Headstone engraving costs an average of about $20 per letter for inscriptions up to 20 or 30 letters in length. Additional lettering often costs less–around $10 per character. If you order a standard headstone with your loved one’s name, birth date, and death date, the cost will average around $500.
Can you put anything on a grave stone?
Yes. If you want to add something a little extra special to a headstone or grave marker, we can and do make arrangements to add lettering and/or inscriptions to existing monuments and markers.

However, to make additions to other headstones, you’ll need to provide the following information:
- Name of the cemetery.
- Location of the headstone in the cemetery.
- A recent picture of the memorial.
- A picture and description of what you want added to the memorial.
Do you need permission to put stones on a grave?
Only the person named on the Deed of Grant to a cemetery plot is entitled to put a headstone on a grave, provided that the cemetery allows it. If you do not own the Deed of Grant and place a grave marker on the site, the Registered Grave Owner is legally entitled to remove it or have it removed.
Can headstones be engraved at the cemetery?
Granite headstones, tombstones or vertical monuments installed at all cemeteries may need inscription, dates or added words of endearment inscribed on the existing headstone. Upon approval of the drawing we then plan a visit to the site with our state of the art sandblasting equipment and engrave your headstone.
