Can my company change my work location?
Your contract of employment sets out your working hours and place of work. An employer cannot change these terms without your express consent. However, there may be a mobility clause in your contract which requires you to move branches at your employer’s discretion.
Can I be forced to work in a different location?
There may be a written term in your contract of employment requiring you to move to another location on request. Where there is such a term, you need to be very cautious before refusing to move, because this could lead to your dismissal for breaching the contract (i.e. refusing to obey your employer’s lawful order).
What if my company moves location?
When a company moves out of state or to another town, it may lay off current employees while also giving them the opportunity to relocate. If you’re laid off, you’re eligible for unemployment benefits. Your employer may reduce the workforce by offering separation packages to employees who quit.
Can my employer change the terms of my offer letter?
Offer letters aren’t the same thing as an employment contract, though, and employers can change the terms of employment, especially in an “at-will” position where employee or employer can terminate the agreement if it proves unsatisfactory.
Can a company change the terms of employment for a new employee?
Employers can’t always change the terms of employment, but most applicable situations do not relate to new hires. For example, employers can’t change contract terms for workers on leave through the Family and Medical Leave Act, or FMLA.
Can my employer make changes to my contract without my consent?
There may be clauses in your contract which gives your employer the right to make reasonable changes without your consent, for instance: A ‘ mobility clause ’ might allow your employer to change where you are based. You may be required to work from a different location.
What happens to my contract when I change jobs?
Typically you will receive pay rises, and for example, your contract may change to reflect different duties you take on or a promotion. You might also request a change which your employer may agree to.
