Can a tailor add pockets to a jacket?
A pocket can be added to any garment. It could take a tailor 2 hours of work or more to install a pocket. A flap pocket is easier to make. The tailor needs to open the inside of the jacket and add an interior to the pocket to make a real pocket.
Can you tailor a polyester jacket?

- Open the side seams of the jacket.
- Position the finished pocket with safety pins.
- Pin the pocket to the lining.
- Carefully stitch pocket in place around outside edges.

Your tailor can add a zipper to it—problem solved. For an edgy look, ask for an exposed zipper. Or, if you’d rather not change the appearance of the garment, stick to a hidden side zipper.
Should I size up for polyester?
Polyester runs true to size as it doesn’t naturally shrink. You can use a brand’s sizing guide to find the perfect fit. It is always recommended to buy items such as undershirts true to size, not loose, since these are going to be worn underneath shirts and you want them to fit close to your body without any wrinkles.

How do you attach a pocket to a leather jacket?
With the pocket positioned like in image 1, flip the whole jacket and pocket over. Looking at the back, you will see the two raw seams that need to be attached (image 2). Sew the seam along the original seam line of the garment, getting as close to the top and bottom of the pocket as possible.
