Are heroes the same as role models?
Hero – is a person who performs actions that are above and beyond the average, that are usually put on a pedestal. Role Model – A person whose actions can be looked upon respectfully as an example to others. (Can be just an everyday person).
Can a hero be a role model?
It may be a teacher who changed a kid’s life, a coach who helped her players achieve greatness, or even a stranger who went out of his way for a person he didn’t know. You, yourself, may be a hero or role model to someone and not even be aware of it. so don’t let them down.

Why do we need heroes and role models?
Heroes and role models play an important role in motivating and inspiring the right kinds of behaviour. I often hear a lament that we don’t have enough contemporary heroes and role models.
Is immediate information better than role models?
Immediate information exposes real life to the world much quicker. It isn’t that the heroes and role models of our youth were so much better than the ones today. It is that the illusion of their goodness is more easily stripped away. The real problem isn’t a lack of role models. It is us.

The key is to have role models people can relate to. And role models who convey the right values. Of hard work, perseverance, honesty and integrity. The real problem isn’t a lack of role models. It is us. We have confused being good at something or famous with being a role model. And, we have decided to celebrate, aspire to, or explain away the character flaws and failures of those we seek to emulate.
