What happens during the purge?
The government credits the low crime rate to an event called “The Purge.” Every year on March 21 st at 7pm, sirens sound, police cars, ambulances, and fire trucks are tucked away, and all hell breaks loose – because from 7pm to 7am the next morning, all crime is legal – even murder.

It’s in fact likely that if Batman showed up for the Purge, then subsequent Purges would involve large numbers of otherwise criminal-minded folks choosing to just lock themselves in their homes and refuse to participate in the Purge anymore, out of fear Batman will stomp them.
