I prefer reading newspapers when compared to magazines. Magazines are usually very topic centric, so for instance if I pick up a political magazine it will have all articles related to politics, if it is a fashion magazine, it has every thing related to fashion and nothing else.

Newspaper reading is a habit I developed in childhood with my father, who loved his morning paper with coffee. We would read to each other and debate the issues of the day. He wasn’t big on crosswords but my mother and grandmother were.

Reading the paper is a very different -and more pleasurable- experience to getting news in the cacophony of social media. It’s meditative and calming and feels somehow more intellectually rigourous. I admire the writers and photographers of National Geographic Magazine who spend a great amount of time (i.e. months, years) in places around the world only to capture real emotions, essence of their subjects. Also, the images presented are so vivid that they complement the flow of the story.
Do you read more factual articles for pleasure or for work?
For pleasure, I prefer to read either a good novel or maybe some of the alternative media coverage and their reports about world events. Most of my reading is for work though, background research and such like, so I would have to say that I read more factual articles than anything else typically.
