What should I do the week before SHSAT?
The week before the SHSAT, focus your time and energy on the following:

- Practice the strategies you had the best success rate with.
- Decide and know exactly how you are going to approach each section and question type.
How long does it take to prepare for the SHSAT?
Starting in 8th grade, after school is in session, leaves only about seven weeks to prepare for a really important and challenging, 3-hour exam. For these reasons, we recommend that students begin preparing for the SHSAT during the summer months, if at all possible.

Is 600 a good SHSAT score?
To be on track for admission into all of the Specialized High Schools, students should have a 400 by the start of 7th grade, a 500 by the end of 7th grade and a 600 by the start of 8th grade. The ultimate goal is to score a 650 by your final practice SHSAT before taking the exam.
Can you take the SHSAT twice?
Students can only take the SHSAT test a maxmimum of two times. Students who take the test when they are in grade 8 can opt to take the test again when they are in grade 9 if they were unsuccessful the first time.
Is one month enough to study for SHSAT?
Start preparing the summer before the test. While the specific dates of the exam change from year to year, students will take the SHSAT around mid-October. It is a good idea to take at least three months to study for the exam, which means you should start studying in July at the latest, though June is even better.
