What is so special about the One Ring?
The One Ring was forged by the Dark Lord Sauron during the Second Age to gain dominion over the free peoples of Middle-earth. He then forged the One Ring in the fires of Mount Doom. Sauron intended it to be the most powerful of all Rings, able to rule and control those who wore the others.

The One Ring was an ancient artifact created by the Dark Lord Sauron in the Second Age for the purpose of ruling over the Free peoples of Middle-earth, mainly the Elves. It was also known as the Ruling Ring, Great Ring of Power and Isildur’s Bane (due to it causing the death of Isildur).
How many Rings of power are there?
Nineteen of these rings were made: three rings for the Elves, seven rings for the Dwarves, and nine rings for Men. An additional ring, the One Ring, was forged by Sauron himself at Mount Doom. The nineteen lesser Rings were linked somehow to the power of the One, and were dependent on it.

What does the ring desire?
Wielding power — especially the immense power of the Ring — can corrupt even the most wise and well-intentioned. The more subtle danger of the Ring, however, is its ability to prey on the desires of those who are powerless. Even more than its use, the eagerness to acquire power can destroy.
Who wore the One Ring?
Sauron was by far the one to carry it for the most time (c. 1850 years), followed by Gollum (478 years), Bilbo (60 years), Frodo (17 years) and Isildur (2 years). Tom Bombadil wore the momentarily Ring on September 26, 3018 but was apparently unaffected by it.
What does the Ring desire?
Why didn’t Sauron use the ring of power in his physical form?
It could also be argued that Sauron’s power needed a focus for his objective of controlling the other rings, and all of Middle Earth. The Ring was craftedfor this purpose. Did Sauron expect to get the ring back?
Sauron being an archetypal dark lord would have been cocky enough to believe that there were no circumstances under which he would not eventually get the ring back. My question is: if he expected to get the ring back, wouldn’t it have been better to leave the dwarves with their remaining rings?
Why did Sauron give the Seven Rings to the Dwarves?
Sauron in the second age gave seven rings to the dwarf lords. This had many effects with the main one being greed and avarice. The reason he gave the dwarves these rings was presumably so that he could corrupt and control them whilst he wore the one ring.
