What happens when two speakers are in phase?
Let’s set up a situation: two speakers are situated at the exact same distance (3 meters) away from you; and each speaker is emitting the same sound. An increase in amplitude results in a louder sound. When this situation occurs it is said to be “exactly in phase” and to exhibit “constructive interference”.
Do speakers cancel each other out?
What happens to the sound waves as they travel out of the speakers? They meet and interfere with each other! That’s because the identical waves reach you in phase — their peaks and troughs are aligned. They combine into one wave with the same wavelength as the individual waves, but a larger amplitude.
What happens if you connect two speakers to one channel?
When two speakers are connected to one channel it will see a speaker load (total Ohms load) that’s lower or higher than one speaker alone. This is because either more or less electrical current is flowing depended on how they’re connected. The end result is that the amplifier does more or less work.
How do I connect two speakers at once?
To enable this feature:
- Go to Settings > Connections > Bluetooth.
- In Android Pie, tap Advanced.
- Turn on the Dual Audio toggle switch.
- To use Dual Audio, pair the phone with two speakers, two headphones, or one of each, and audio will stream to both.
- If you add a third, the first paired device will be booted off.
How do you fix out of phase speakers?
It is really simple to rectify this by tracing your speaker wire back to your receiver/amp, and check that the red connection (the + positive) is connected to the red input, and the black (the – negative) to the black input. A great way to make sure you have wired your speakers correctly is to use banana plugs.
Why will two sounds overlap or otherwise cancel each other out?
Interference: Two overlapping waves exhibit interference. By playing a sound with the opposite amplitude as the incoming sound, the two sound waves destructively interfere and this cancel each other out.
Is it bad to have speakers facing each other?
“Facing each other” doesn’t really do anything in this situation, except maybe double the pressure on the speakers. If you double the number of things making the same sound, the sound doubles in volume.
Can I play the same audio stream through two devices simultaneously?
There are actually more than a few different use cases for playing the same or different audio streams through two or more different playback devices at the same time. It might make more sense if you simply think of it as controlling playback over multiple outputs.

How can I use headphones instead of two pairs of speakers?
Instead of two pairs of headphones. When you want to use headphones, simply turn the volume knob on your speakers down to zero and put on your headphones. If your headphones have in-line volume controls, you can do the same there. This is probably the easiest way to duplicate an audio source.
