What clothes can you swim in?
This can include:
- Fitted t-shirt or leggings under swimwear.
- Wetsuit style or fitted swimming t-shirt.
- Burkini swimming costume.
- 3/4 length swim shorts in thin nylon material.
- Swim or board shorts.
- Leggings with or without shorts.
Can you swim in clothing?
Clothes that are worn are not made with elite swimming in mind, and so any material – cotton or not – which doesn’t easily allow water to pass through it or by it will tend to drag the swimmer, leading to early fatigue.
What shirt should I wear to swim?
Swim shirts that are primarily comprised of lyrca, nylon, polyester, and spandex bode well in pool water. These materials do not soak up water and weigh swimmers down like other common clothing materials, such as denim, flannel, cotton, and wool. Normal T-shirts should not be worn in the pool.

I usually wear a bikini, because it makes more sense than swimming with clothes on, and it is more comfortable. I would have to say no. I hate the feeling of getting out of the pool and all my clothes are heavy, but when wearing a bathing suit you don’t have to deal with that issue. It is so dangerous to swim fully clothed.
