4 years should be enough. From my personal experience i completed DSH-2 (almost 3 :D) in 2.5 years, while living in Germany and taking classes 3 times a week for 9 hours in total/week, so my way was: A1. 1 – 2,5 months, then break 2-4 weeks, then A1.
