Can the Death Star be built in real life?
Brooks Peck, a curator at the EMP Museum in Seattle believes that creating enough metal to build the Death Star is also theoretically possible—but only if we already have an established space infrastructure to support it. We technically do, but it’s still in its infancy.

What would it take for the Death Star to destroy Earth?
Alderaan and Earth are very similar, so we’ll look at what it would take for the Death Star to destroy Earth. For that, the Death Star would have to overpower the forces that hold the planet together—in this case, gravity. The gravitational binding energy of Earth is 2.24*10^32 Joules (that’s 240 followed by 32 zeros).
What would happen if the Death Star was fired at the Moon?
Releasing that much energy in one direction (2.24 × 10^32 Joules), would cause a Moon-mass object to accelerate in the opposite direction to a speed of 78 km/s from rest, something that clearly didn’t happen when the Death Star was fired. Is it cool to destroy a planet in Star Wars?

What would happen if a Death Star fired a laser?
Since every action has an equal and opposite reaction, the Death Star would fire (or “push” ) the laser, and the laser would “push” (more like recoil) in return. Assuming the death star weighs as much as the moon, if it fired 2.24*10^32 J of energy, it would accelerate about 48 miles (78 km) away from Alderaan per second.
