Depending on the publisher, this can take a few weeks or even a few months. On average, I see a contract come in three weeks to one month after I strike a deal. Tip #3: Plan for an additional two months of negotiations after your agent receives the contract.
What is the chance of getting a book published?
So while an individual publisher might take just 1\% of work submitted, that means an overall success rate of more like 10\%. Something similar, of course, applies with submissions to agents. The better the agent, the higher that success rate will be.

Response time for agents varies greatly. Some will be back to you in 24 hours, others a week, while some will take six weeks. A few will answer in the three to six month range.

Even if the comment is a critique of your work, we recommend you consider resubmitting to any literary agent or editor who cared enough about your work to offer a personal comment. Send the agent or editor a thank-you note, and if/when you resubmit, reference the comments from the original rejection.
Do agents ever ask for revisions after submitting a manuscript?
If they didn’t specifically ask for revisions, most agents will be open to hearing from you again about the same project if they provided specific advice and you took said advice. Whether they will ask to see the revised manuscript again is decided on a case by case basis.

A form letter, no matter what the exact phrasing, is a nice, generic way of saying no thanks. When a literary agent or editor has taken the time to include a comment about your submission, then you know it’s a personalized rejection.
