Why is British weather so mild?
Britain is in the temperate climate zone and does not have extremes of temperature or rainfall. The Gulf Stream, a large Atlantic Ocean current of warm water from the Gulf of Mexico, keeps winters quite mild whilst during summertime, warm but not excessively hot temperatures are experienced.
Why is UK always cloudy?
Britain is particularly cloudy because it’s located in the Warm Gulfstream. The heat necessary to evaporate all that water was absorbed off the African American coast, and then transported along with the water. The air above Britain, on the other hand, is quite often coming from the polar areas and thus much colder.
Where in the UK has the most thunderstorms?
London
Thunderstorms are most common in London, the South-East, east of England, the East Midlands, and least common in the North-West. Greater London, Kent, Sussex, Essex, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Norfolk are the regions with the most thunderstorms during the year.
Why do meteorologists have a hard time predicting weather?
For example, meteorologists have a harder time predicting localized precipitation and thunderstorms with large grids. In a given weather model area, surface features can affect factors such as precipitation and wind (Source: meteoblue, used with permission). I have experienced this meteorological blind spot first-hand.
What will happen to weather forecasts in the future?
The accuracy of weather forecasts will continue to improve. That’s because computer storage size and speed increase. Weather models will be refined. The observational networks that supply weather data are expanded.
How accurate will weather forecasts be in 2019?
For example, they may have trouble predicting how long extreme temperature events like the polar vortex experience in central Canada in 2019 will last. The accuracy of weather forecasts will continue to improve. That’s because computer storage size and speed increase.
What do you think the world knows about the UK?
There are plenty of things the world knows about the UK and the British in general. Our weather is awful, we drink tea and we bend over whenever the US gets a little frisky. Apparently we also live in castles too which would be fantastic, if a little cold in the winter.
