Why is my betta at the front of the tank?
Bettas can be a bit like puppies, they have their favourite places to sit, nap, and exercise, and they LOVE attention! They love to interact with you and most will greet you at the front of the tank when you walk by or come to work on their care.
Why is my betta fish always at the surface?
A fish may linger near the surface because he’s trying to breathe more easily. Remember, fish breathe dissolved oxygen—not oxygen that is already combined in the H2O molecule. Naturally, these dissolved oxygen levels tend to be higher near the surface, where interaction between air and water takes place.

A huge contributor to betta illness is a dirty tank. If a betta is fed frequently but does not receive regular water changes, nutrients and waste build up in the bettas tank and allow bacteria, ammonia, and even parasites to thrive. So, if your betta is ill, move your fish to a quarantine tank and thoroughly clean his old tank.
How can I tell how old my betta fish is?
Your fish could start laying down on leaves or spending more time resting on the substrate at the bottom of the tank. Even if you just got your Betta a few months ago, they could have spent years with a breeder or at the store.
