There are many squares in nature, from inorganic structures like the salt crystal to biological forms ranging from the amorphous but roughly square box jelly, many different species of plankton, and even each and every plant cell.
How was the square invented?
The Egyptians calculated square roots using an inverse proportion method as far back as 1650BC. Chinese mathematical writings from around 200BC show that square roots were being approximated using an excess and deficiency method. In 1450AD Regiomontanus invented a symbol for a square root, written as an elaborate R.

Perfect squares do not exist in nature. They are a math construct. They are mostly used in engineering and were started so buildings didn’t fall down.
Are there any naturally occurring squares in nature?
Many crystals like pyrite form cubic structures. Also, look up “lobster eyes.” They have square mirrored tubes that focus light. Desperate creationists use it as an example of “intelligent design.” Are there naturally occurring squares? Yes, assuming that cubes count. Salt crystals form cubes due to their crystalline structure.
What is the shape of a perfect square in nature?
If you look closely at the crystals of sodium chloride (ordinary table salt) you will find that the preferred shape of the crystals is perfect cube shapes. Each cube has a perfectly square face.
