What happens if you fail IB Diploma?
What if a student fails one of his/her IB exams? Students not earning the IB Diploma will receive an IB Certificate for each IB course and exam completed successfully. Students may retake an IB exam if they wish, in order to raise a failing score to a passing one.
Do universities care about IB?
Universities appreciate the IB’s rigour and they know it takes hard work and dedication to perform well, particularly in Higher Level (HL) subjects. This is demonstrated by the fact that most US universities award course credits for IB Diploma subjects.
Do IB diplomas expire?
Does the IB Diploma have an expiration date? No.
Can you get rescinded for IB scores?
The short answer is that yes, they can..but not just Ivy League colleges. The truth is that, should you fail to meet the requirements of your acceptance, the colleges have the right to rescind admission.
Is 3 a fail in IB?
There is a grade 1 earned in any subject/level. A score of 2 has been earned three or more times (HL or SL). A score of 3 or lower has been earned four or more times (HL or SL).
What IB score is passing?

Each IB subject is assessed on a scale of 1 – 7 with a score of 4 considered a “passing grade”. This score is calculated based on a combination of internal and external assessments throughout the 11th and 12th grade years.
Does Canada care about IB?
Canadian universities will prioritize your non-IB marks first. You will receive admission earlier based on your province’s marks than IB marks (mainly due to how predicted and final IB marks are sent later).
Is IB accepted in UK universities?
The IB diploma is widely known and accepted as a qualifying programme to attend university in the UK. Individual courses and universities typically have specific IB diploma and individual subject score requirements, so it is important to be aware of the requirements for the courses in which a student is interested.
Do IB predicted grades matter?
The IB will also ask your teachers for your predicted grades a few months before you sit for your examinations. However, in usual circumstances, these grades have no consequences so are nothing to worry about.
Do US universities care about final IB grades?
Predicted grades matter because for those graduating grade 12, they won’t get their final grades back from the IB World Organization until the start of first-year university. Universities have to accept them based on their predicted grades, because they don’t know yet what the final grades will be.
Is it hard to get the IB Diploma?
If you aim to get an IB diploma, then you will need to do more than just choosing HLs and SLs. You will also need to write an Extended Essay (EE), participate in Theory of Knowledge (ToK) and indulge in Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS). The intensity of IB is one of the factors which makes it appear ‘difficult’.
Can I take AP and IB exams for credit?
Yes! We accept scores of 5 on most Advanced Placement (AP) exams and of 7 on certain International Baccalaureate (IB) Higher-Level examinations for credit; other scores may be accepted in particular subjects. Learn more about accelerated course credit here.
Can I submit my application without SAT or ACT scores?
Yes, if you previously had SAT or ACT scores sent before applying, you can indicate in your application that you wish to have your application considered without SAT or ACT scores. What counts as an academic achievement of note in considering what to include in my application?
Do international applicants have to share their SAT or ACT scores?
Both domestic and international applicants who choose to submit SAT or ACT scores may share either official or self-reported SAT or ACT scores. These students will not be required to submit official score reports unless they are admitted and choose to enroll.
What if I don’t have a traditional essay format?
If you do not believe that a traditional essay format can meaningfully share who you are, you can also submit an Alternative Project as an additional material. Alternative Projects may be multimedia works (videos, photo essays, art work, poetry, etc.) that applicants believe will introduce and represent themselves to admissions counselors.
