Do data scientist need to learn JavaScript?
I think it is quite common for Data Scientists to know JavaScript, and the language itself is a lot like Python. That being said, I am curious how many Data Scientists will actually use the language for Data Science. Of course, there are some disadvantages.
Do data scientists need to know Web development?
A lot of data scientists have skills related to the field such as cleaning, pulling information from databases, building data pipelines, building all sorts of machine learning algorithms, visualisation and others. Not many have web development as part of their skill set. You will need additional skills to stand out.
Do data scientists need to code?
In a word, yes. Data Scientists code. That is, most Data Scientists have to know how to code, even if it’s not a daily task. As the oft-repeated saying goes, “A Data Scientist is someone who’s better at statistics than any Software Engineer, and better at software engineering than any Statistician.”
Is JavaScript good for analytics?
It’s the web what makes JavaScript great for data analysis (and much else besides). So I admire the many powerful features and libraries available in other languages, but JavaScript is my first choice for its portability and convenience.
Is JavaScript a good programming language for data science?
It might be counter-intuitive to use JavaScript as the language for data science tasks. JavaScript is playing a crucial part in entire data science workflow. Most data scientists still prefer to use Python / R for conventional data science tasks.
Do data scientists need to learn web development?
Not many have web development as part of their skill set. Learning web development as a data scientist will set you apart from other people. The field is getting more popular as time passes meaning more competition. One funny thing about data science is that as libraries and techniques get better, the amount of human input reduces.
Do data scientists need to speak the same language?
If your role as a data scientist requires you to work closely with product developers, then it cannot hurt to ‘speak’ the same language. ETL — Data processing pipelines are usually implemented in a general purpose language, like Python, Scala or Java. JavaScript often doesn’t get a look in. However, this might be unfair.
Should I learn Python or your or JavaScript first?
Unless you have decided that you want to learn data science first, then you may learn Python or R first. Otherwise, I recommend JavaScript over other languages for beginners and startups. JavaScript’s learning curve is not as steep, as we can use JavaScript for both client-side and server-side programming.
