Can EMS workers have tattoos?
EMS agencies prefer ‘no visible tattoos. The gold standard is: tattoos should not be visible in a uniform. If you do have tattoos, you may be required to wear long sleeves while on duty. Just because your tattoos aren’t hateful or discriminatory doesn’t mean they’re not offensive.
Can you be an EMT with visible tattoos?
In general, policies regarding tattoos and body piercings limit their visibility and require that nothing about them is offensive. No new EMTs or paramedics will be hired with any visible tattoos or with tattoos that may be covered but would be considered offensive.
Can paramedics get tattoos?

Depends…but generally, if it is a part of company policy and you’re in a right-to-work state, yup! They sure can.

So, can firefighters have beards? Generally, no, you will not be allowed to have a beard and will most likely be required to be clean shaven all times while on duty. There’s a variety of reasons for this, but there have also been some exceptions and even some legal battles.
Do firefighters have tattoos on their uniforms?
However, I know several medics and firefighters with full sleeve tattoos. They just wear long sleeved uniforms to conceal them. As a sign of solidarity it’s not uncommon for every recruit in our academy to wear long sleeves if one person has to for reason of tattoo concealment.

What are the policies for tattoos and other body modifications?
While our allied agencies (LE and fire) have much more liberal policies, ours is straightforward: No visible tattoos, no visible body modifications, only two “normal” piercings per ear. No tongue piercings, no nose rings. Hair color must be a natural color and non extreme hair style.
