What is the structure of KI3?

KI3 is an ionic Compound. (I3)- is polyhalide ion, Here central iodine atom has oxidation state -1 whereas terminal iodine atoms have zero oxidation state. Central iodine has eight valence electrons (hence -1 charge) whereas terminal iodine atoms have seven valence electrons each.

What is KI3?

The compound KI3 is formed when potassium iodide is mixed with elemental iodine (I2). It contains the polyatomic triiodide ion (I3–).

Which bond is present in KI3?

In KI3 molecule, an atom of iodine forms a coordinate covalent bond with an iodine molecule. Hence, in a KI3 molecule, the O.N. of the two I atoms forming the I2 molecule is 0, wherein the O.N. of the I atom forming the coordinate bond is -1.

Is KI3 ionic or covalent?

Potassium iodide is an ionic compound.

What is the oxidation number of I in KI3?

zero. The ON of iodine forming the co-ordinate bond is –1. Therefore the ON of iodine in KI3 is – 1.

Is KI3 an ionic compound?

In the same way, a potassium atom transfers an electron to an iodine atom to form a potassium ion and an iodide ion. So, potassium iodide is an ionic compound.

What is oxidation number of KI3?

(a) KI3. Let assume oxidation number of l is x. In KI3, the oxidation number (O.N.) of K is +1.

Is KL an ionic compound?

What is the oxidation number of Fe in fe0 94O?

So in the FeO. 94O iron oxidation number will be 0.94X-2 =O. So the oxidation number for the iron will be 200/94 which is option 2 in the question.

What is oxidation number of Fe in Fe3O4?

Hence, the oxidation number of Fe in Fe3O4 is 8 / 3.

What is the hybridization of KI3?

It is an ionic complex, ionic bond does not form due to hybridization of atomic orbitals, so for hybridization you have to consider the anionic part, i.e., I3-. so the hybridisation of KI3 will be same as that of I3-. check the link given below. What is a hybridization I3-?

What is the hybridization type of I3- ion?

I3- ion is basically sp 3 d hybridized. Name of the Molecule. Triiodide ion. Molecular Formula. I3-. Hybridization Type. sp 3 d. Bond Angle. 180 o.

What is the difference between sp3 hybridization and sp3d2 hybridization?

Trigonal bipyramidal: Five electron groups involved resulting in sp3d hybridization, the angle between the orbitals is 90°, 120°. Octahedral: Six electron groups involved resulting in sp3d2 hybridization, the angle between the orbitals is 90°. Explain sp3 Hybridization in Methane?

What are the two types of hybridization in organic chemistry?

Based on the nature of the mixing orbitals, the hybridization can be classified as, sp hybridization (beryllium chloride, acetylene) sp2 hybridization (boron trichloride, ethylene)
