Stay Inside the Bus Station at Night. You are pretty safe inside the Greyhound bus station, but outside is a whole different ballgame. I personally know several people who have been robbed right outside of Greyhound bus stations. Stay inside and don’t risk encountering an incident that could end your trip (or worse).

Don’t wander around outside the station at night. If something in going down in the bathrooms don’t go in there. If someone starts messing with you on the bus get up and tell the driver. The crazies that get on the bus come at all hours but you will be able to spot them quickly. Just stay away from them, even if this means sitting at the front of the bus or going up and hanging out with security at the station.
Why do people stay at bus stations instead of hotels?
They cater to travelers and provide a place to sleep for typically $10 or less a night. Usually you have to bunk beds with other travelers but some of them are actually nicer than a lot of hotels. It also helps that most of the ones I came across were not that far from the bus stations, usually within a couple miles or less.
