Studies show that 20-57\% of individuals do not return to therapy after their initial appointment. There are various reasons for this, and for premature dropout rate in general.

Treatment dropout was defined as the percentage of patients who began treatment, but according to the author(s) dropped out prematurely, thus utilizing the author(s)’ definition.
How can a borderline client terminate a therapist?
To terminate the relationship:
- Explain to the client that your job is to ensure they get excellent care and that you do not feel you can meet their needs.
- Give the client space to process their feelings.
- Offer a referral to a therapist who might be a better fit.
Can you fall in love with your therapist?
I spent hours Googling these feelings to understand why they were occurring. I learned that falling in love with your therapist is more common than I realized. I found a Reddit thread about talk therapy where users talked about this on a daily basis.
Is it normal to feel hatred for your therapist?
Even in much less severe cases, hatred often comes up. If clients feel comfortable in treatment and love their therapists because they’re so kind and sympathetic (see my post on the difference between empathy vs sympathy), the therapy is of little value in my opinion.
